NCAA Discussing Tapping Into Savings

USA Today reported that the NCAA is discussing the future of a nearly $180 million endowment fund. Originally intended to be a $500 million quasi-endowment fund, the NCAA is now considering distributing some of the funds due to economic hardships being faced by most athletic programs.

Cal Poly could be staying put in the Big West Conference while the football program continues in its Football Championship Subdivision or they may have to decide if moving to a an FBS conference for all sports makes sense.

Florida Bill Requires Minority Interviews for Coaching Positions

Richard Steinberg, D-Miami Beach, introduced a bill this year that would have required state universities and colleges to interview qualified minority candidates before hiring head coaches or athletic directors. Subsequently he found that the University of Florida's Board of Governors actually has the authority to implement such a rule, and he is encouraging them to do so.
