Professional Stadiums Look to Attract College Games
The New York Times points out the growing pattern of professional stadiums getting into the business of hosting college games. Boise State will play Virginia Tech at FedEx Field in Maryland in a more or less neutral site game. The economics make sense for both teams and the facility.
Boise State, ranked third in the Associated Press preseason poll, has been guaranteed $1.25 million for the opportunity to get a high-quality victory under its belt before continuing its case for a Bowl Championship Series title game by wiping its funky blue field with the comparative weaklings of the Western Athletic Conference.
Virginia Tech, ranked 10th, will earn $2.35 million to make sure its fan base carpools its way east so the ESPN cameras will not reveal too many empty seats for its prime-time showing. To read more, click here.
